2 HKIA Awards – the Merit Award – Mixed Use(es) Building and Special Architectural Award, Heritage & Adaptive Re-use, were presented in recognition of excellence in architecture to the project, Tai Kwun – Central Police Station Revitalisation Project, of which MVA is the Lead Traffic & Transport Consultant for the team.
Tai Kwun - UNESCO Asia-Pacific Award-Winning Cultural Heritage Conservation
MVA was involved in providing traffic engineering and transport planning solutions to the design of Tai Kwun (Central Police Station Redevelopment), from concept to construction stages, between 2008 and 2019. Led by Rocco Design Architect and Herzog & de Meuron and Purcell.
Tai Kwun is Hong Kong’s Centre for Heritage and Arts – a cultural destination for inspiration, stimulation and enjoyment opened in May 2018. The historical site occupied an area of 13,600 square-metre, compromises three Declared Monuments of Hong Kong – the former Central Police Station, Central Magistracy and Victoria prison, all have been meticulously conserved, with unfailing attention to authenticity. The site also includes two new buildings – JC Contemporary and JC Cube.
