PL179 Ang Mo Kio Linear Park And Cycling Path Network Phase 2
As part of the Ang Mo Kio Cycling Network, a Linear Park will be developed to connect people from Yio Chu Kang through Ang Mo Kio to Bishan - Ang Mo Kio Park. This will eventually facilitate seamless connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians within Ang Mo Kio and also link Park Connector Network (PCN) users to the Marina Bay Area.
The project requires first an assessment of the road network to determine the alignment of the proposed ‘iconic red’ cycling path. Using innovative video technology and a quantitative active mobility assessment tool, road sidetables are assessed on both sides of any given road/street in terms of intermodal interactions, trees, physical constraints, safety, and land ownership. With the comparative outcomes, the alignments are recommended for further detailed design. As a model cycling and walking town, the design of the cycling path will take references from current LTA guidelines and global best practices.
In areas such as traffic crossings and access points where interactions between pedestrians, cyclists and motorists are compromised, appropriate measures are implemented (eg. Raised mid block crossings, extended crossing times, segregated bicycle crossings, larger traffic islands). Justifying the implementations will be before- and after- traffic microsimulations. In areas where motorised traffic is relatively low, road dieting (ie. lane narrowing) is applied to existing road reserves to encourage wider facilities to promote walking and cycling.
