High Speed Rail Linking 3 Airports – Patronage & Revenue Forecasting
SYSTRA MVA has undertaken the ridership and revenue forecast exercise for the preparation of the proposal.
State Railway of Thailand has floated a PPP tender for execution and operation of a 220km-long High Speed Rail Linking 3 Airports project between Don Muang Airport, Suvarnabumi Airport and a growing airport of U-Tapao in Rayong province over a 50-year concession period. The route will include stops at intermediate stations in Bangkok as well as the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) which is a major growth area. Two types of service will operate on the route – a limited stop inter-city HSR service (with stops at the 3 airports) and a stopping service between Suvarnabumi and Don Muang Airports. SYSTRA has been nominated by Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) to prepare the answer to the tender working in close coordination with CP’s designated partners for this endeavor.
The outputs will be used both for design purposes (rolling stock estimates, station sizing etc). as well as for financial analysis. The forecast consists in a double exercise aiming to estimate the future ridership of the existing Airport Rail Line/City Line which will be extended in the future (2 additional stations) and the ridership of the High Speed Rail link operating on 9 stations, 7 of which are new (including the two additional stations of ARL/City line.
