Development Of A Public Transport Demand Forecasting Model
SYSTRA MVA was tasked by SMRT with analysing ticket data, building and calibrating a public transport demand forecasting model and setting up the model for future year analysis with new RTS lines in place.
Singapore is rapidly changing in terms of its land use development and transportation network. Government is seeking to encourage greater use of public transport and through the development of new infrastructure – particularly the new Circle Line, Boon Lay Extension and Downtown Line as well as others in the planning stage – is actively taking steps to further enhance Singapore’s world class transport system. Clearly SMRT’s business will be directly impacted by these changes and therefore are seeking an updated public transport model which will be used for planning purposes over the next 5 years period.
SYSTRA MVA used the advanced features in CUBE software to forecast impact of new railway projects and changes in bus services, calibration and validation of SMRT model, production of PT patronage forecast for future years as the rail network develops. We produce the current year 2007 and forecast year matrices for public transport and private transport as well as develop a Cube-based public transport demand forecasting model.
