MVA Shortlisted for West Kowloon Cultural District Xiqu Centre Design Competition

September 7, 2012 – Hong Kong - The West Kowloon Cultural District Authority announced the five shortlisted design teams for its First Arts Venue. These teams will go on to present their ideas on how the Xiqu Centre for Cantonese opera will be designed and built for the WKCD.

The Xiqu Centre will be the first of seventeen core arts and cultural venues to be opened within the WKCD. Situated along the corner of Canton Road and Austin Road West, the Xiqu Centre will act as a gateway of access to the Cultural District.

MVA is supporting various shortlisted Bidders, hoping to implement appropriate traffic measures in order to facilitate both the development and operational processes of the Centre. The aims to develop a master plan the Eastern Entrance to the WKCD, as well as a building concept for the Xiqu Centre. These designs will be developed within the overarching WKCD Master Plan with assurance they are buildable and cost-effective.

The West Kowloon Cultural District is a strategic investment by the Government of Hong Kong Special
Administrative region to meet the growing demand in arts and culture infrastructure.
