“Mid-way through the SYSTRA 2018 plan, our results confirm our ambitions: to double our revenue, Ebit and headcount within five years. Thanks to the dedication of all our teams, SYSTRA is financially sound and has a well-filled order book. Growth in our results, in line with our growth plan
Although the global economic environment remains tense, SYSTRA’s results continue to grow. The Group generated revenue of €623 million, up 18% in relation to 2014. EBIT also grew by 18% to €25.5 million, however it did not quite reach the initial target due to difficulties in certain economies.

Parallel to this healthy financial situation, the order book remains at a high level at almost €1 billion.

The Group’s international expansion is speeding up: 55% of revenue from outside of France
France, the Middle East and Asia account for 76% of the Group’s revenue and today are the main sources of SYSTRA’s activity. For the first time since the merger in 2011, the Group’s international activities represent 55% of revenue.

Since 2014, SYSTRA has been ramping up its presence on key markets, underpinned by a strategy of targeted acquisitions. After acquiring SAI in India in 2014, SYSTRA forged ahead with the integration of two companies in 2015: TECTRAN in Brazil and JMP Consultants in the UK. It continued on a similar vein in early 2016 with the acquisition of Dalco Elteknik in Sweden and Scott Lister in Australia. A total of almost 1,000 employees have joined SYSTRA over the last two years.

At the end of 2015, SYSTRA had offices in 61 countries through subsidiaries or branches, and operated projects in 80 countries.

Over 600 new employees to accompany our growth
The headcount increased by +13% in 2015. The Group now has a total employee headcount of 5,400, of which 3,000 outside of France. A similar increase is targeted in 2016 to accompany the Group’s growth and to reach a total headcount of 7,000 by 2018.

Main contracts won in 2015

Saudi Arabia: feasibility studies and preliminary designs for the future metro system of Medina, comprising three lines and a total length of 94 km.


  • design and construction supervision for three tunnels in Port Said (2 one-way road tunnels and 1 two-way rail tunnel with a diameter of 11.4 metres) which will be built under the Suez Canal to link up areas in the Sinai peninsula with the Nile delta;
  • two new design and construction supervision contracts on a third metro line in Cairo: phase 3 of 17.7km and phase 4 of 18.2km.

Ethiopia: employer’s representative assignment for the 400 km Awash/ Hara Gebeya rail link-up, more precisely verification of implementation of the requirements of the contracting authority, Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC).

United Arab Emirates: Route 2020 - Extension design and supervision of construction for the red line of the Dubai metro.

Grand Paris: manager of the infrastructure project for section 4 of line 15 west linking Pont de Sèvres with Saint-Denis Pleyel.
Lyon: four major tramway and metro contracts over the next seven years:

  • Project manager for the new 7 km T6 tramway line.
  • The market for the renewal of trains and automation for lines A and B.
  • The market for the project management of a 2.5 km tunnel extension to line B of the Lyon metro as far as Hôpitaux Sud.
  • A mandate for the general planning and coordination of tests on the tram connection to Lyon’s future stadium, Stade des Lumières (Stadium of Lights).
  • SEA high speed line: coordination of integration tests.

India: three new major underground projects in India in 2015:
  Ahmedabad metro: feasibility studies and construction supervision as part of a project management consultancy contract. This new network will comprise two lines spanning a total length of 37.7 km, with 28 overground and 2 underground stations.
  Chennai metro: SYSTRA will oversee feasibility studies for phase 2 of the Chennai metro, including three additional lines, with a total length of 63 km.
  Calcutta metro: SYSTRA will oversee feasibility studies for the underground section of line 2 of the Calcutta metro, comprising 3 stations and a total length of 3 km.

Morocco: SYSTRA won the project management contract for the construction of Casablanca’s tramway Line 2 and extension of Line 1. The total length of the project is 18 km.

Qatar: contract for the general design of the Lusail tramway.

Sweden: in partnership with COWI, SYSTRA won the contract to perform preliminary feasibility studies for the third section of Sweden’s high-speed line "Ostlänken”, for a length of around 65 km.

In France, SYSTRA has worked on every high-speed line and is presently working on four projects: the Sud Europe Atlantique link-up between Tours and Bordeaux, the EST phase 2 high-speed line, the Nîmes/Montpellier bypass and the Brittany - Pays de Loire line. SYSTRA is also involved in the Tanger – Kenitra high-speed line in Morocco. SYSTRA is a stakeholder in projects in India, Malaysia and Thailand.
SYSTRA has built its expertise on contributions to high-speed infrastructures throughout the world, and notably its contribution to the establishment of sustainable high-speed networks in Asia: South Korea, Taiwan, China, etc. Its subsidiary Canarail won the rolling stock renovation contract for the prestigious Rocky Mountaineer tourist train line in Canada.
